Let the journey begin…

Life is funny. Or perhaps it’s God that is funny. But here I am preparing for the adventure of a life time that I never even would have considered doing a few years ago. And here in this blog is where I hope to chronicle this adventure. I thought about entitling this blog “Adventures in Thailand” but I truly believe that God is starting something in my life that will extend far beyond what how God is going to use me in Thailand. I hope to keep this blog going far beyond my time there.

So it’s official. On July 19th I will be leaving for Bangkok, Thailand to provide rescue, jobs, and aftercare for girls leaving the commercial sex trade. (if you still are confused about what I am doing exactly please visit their website to learn more about what NightLight does: nightlightbangkok.com). It still sounds so crazy but it just feels so right. Sometimes when I hear myself say it out loud I can hardly believe I have the nerve to do something like this. I have thought all about how hard it will be and how unsafe it sounds. But there is this incredible peace in all of it, this unexplainable peace that I will be safe and that God will give me all that I need to do His work in this capacity. And let me say, I fully welcome the hard. If you know me, you know this journey I have been on to stop being so comfortable. I know there is so much to be learned and learning sticks better when its hard. So bring it on.

I keep thinking about everything that I have been though to bring me to this place and how much God has been preparing me to get ready for this next big leap. I suppose working with Junior highers for 8 years of your life will prepare you for just about anything but more than that God has been teaching me so much. He taught me how to stick though something even though its really hard, how to depend on Him for validation and not other people, and most importantly, that I should never put Him in a box. And that really is the most important one. Really.

There will be so much darkness where I am going, but I trust that God’s light can and will overpower any darkness I face and I believe there is joy to be found in any situation. And as Ghandi and my tagline to this blog site says “Where there is love there is life.” I hope to spread ridiculous amounts of love and life all over the place where ever God takes me.

And I will close this blog with one of my more increasingly favorite verses (Eph 3:20-21):

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

  1. I just wanted to be the first to comment. So I expect you to read our blog too. And as we read each other’s blog we’ll find that one day we’ll intersect because either 1.) we’ll do a mission trip/visit to Thailand or 2.) you’ll do the same in the Philippines.

  2. Wow! Sandy your commitment to do God’s Will…no matter where it leads, is not just inspiring, but completely overwhelming! Bless you and praise God for the good work he is producing in you…and for your willingness to follow…and Thank you for sharing your adventure with us. It serves as a constant reminder of how great He is and how His greatness can pass on to people willing to surrender all to Him…like you!
